Hong Kong

CITY OF LIGHTS: Hong Kong at night

In high-rise Hong Kong the ancient cultures of China meets the sophistication of the West in an exotic melting pot.

Hong Kong exploded out of the colonial era as one of Asia's most significant ports allowing for advanced commerce from many nations to create the cultural diversity we see today. Hong Kong is a modern metropolis steeped in unique blends of Eastern and Western traditions and offers a wide range of natural, cultural and cosmopolitan attractions.

The impressive skyline of gleaming skyscrapers towers over traditional fresh produce markets that are set up daily in their shadows. Market shopping is an integral part of the Hong Kong experience and a delight for shoppers, with stalls selling anything and everything from T-shirts to electronics. Head for the ultra fashionable shopping district of Wanchai for designer labels or the fascinating night markets of Nathan Road, where you might find an inexpensive copy!

A visit to Hong Kong is not complete without taking the tram to Victoria Peak. From the summit, look past the jungle of skyscrapers, and the working harbour where ferries and pleasure junks glide by, to the spectacular signature view of the city. Aberdeen is a scenic highlight of any trip around Hong Kong Island with its brightly decorated trawlers which double as floating homes for Aberdeen's fishermen. If time permits, the outer islands are a must to visit, boasting the giant bronze Buddha in Lantau and Tai O traditional fishing villages.

Hong Kong benefits from her natural setting which harbours one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world where the best of the best is always available -whether it be accommodation, shopping, dining or nightlife.
