ANCIENT CITY: Statue in Damascus
With its rugged landscape, Syria has always been a country of challenge and change; from early Babylon to the Ottoman Empire.
Damascus is said to be the oldest continuously inhabited city on earth. The surrounding countryside, filled with lush vineyards and orchards, is rich in historic sites such as the massive Crusader castle of Krak des Chevaliers, the ancient city of Aleppo with its famous citadel and Palmyra, the superb archaeological site deep in the Syrian desert. Travellers to Syria may be surprised by the wide cultural and religious background. We use the best available accommodation, however hotels outside of Damascus are rarely of international standards.
