Namibia
HIKING: on beautiful orange namibian sand dunes
Situated between the South Atlantic and the Kalahari Desert, Namibia is a country of wide open spaces, rugged landscapes and dramatic coastlines.
Nomadic tribes still roam the land and rock art dates back 27,000 years. Windhoek, the capital of Namibia is located in the Central Highlands whilst Etosha National Park is one of the greatest wildlife-viewing areas. The perennial springs around the Etosha Pan attract giraffes, elephants, birds and the big cat predators whilst Sossusvlei is a photographer’s paradise where sand dunes rise majestically like pyramids up to 325m high. Damaraland is home of the desert-adapted elephant and where you will find ancient rock art sites, whilst a visit to Fish River Canyon is a soulful experience. The Skeleton Coast, covering an area of two million hectares is a desolate, eerie yet fascinating landscape. Walvis Bay Lagoon is regarded as the most important wetland for coastal birds in Southern Africa with about 200,000 birds stopping here on their migration to and from the Arctic. The Caprivi strip in the far north-eastern corner of Namibia is a lush wetland area and follows the Linyanti and Zambezi rivers, with an environment very similar to the Okavango Delta. This area is a perfect extension to a Namibia, Botswana or South African adventure.
