Barbados Holidays

Of all the Caribbean islands, Barbados holidays are perhaps the best known for their exclusive hotels and chic restaurants. Yet the original charm and friendliness of the Bajan people is still very much the way of life. It is a small island and the most easterly of the Caribbean Islands, with the Atlantic surf on the east coast and the sparkling Caribbean waters on the west coast – the perfect setting for a honeymoon of contrasts and relaxation amongst landscapes that roll with fields of sugar cane scattered amongst brightly coloured villages.

Luxury holidays in Barbados with Abercrombie & Kent are exclusive and diverse, taking in the most remarkable locations and the island's finest accommodation.

Captain Powell landed on Barbados in 1625 and claimed the island for England. Today, Barbados still has an endearingly British atmosphere and cricket is the national sport. But despite the British influence, your Barbados holiday will demonstrate that West Indian culture is very much evident in the food, music and local people.  A full range of cuisine is available to suit every palate, but don't go home without trying flying fish, the national dish of Barbados. Football, rugby, polo, horse racing, surfing and of course cricket events fill the sporting calendar and there is hardly a month that goes by without some sort of festival. The year begins with the Jazz Festival in January attracting international performers but perhaps the most popular festival is the three week Crop-Over. Starting in mid July it celebrates the end of the sugar cane harvest with a multitude of colourful processions, a highlight of any luxury holiday in Barbados during this time.
