Day 1 - London/AmmanYour afternoon flight with Royal Jordanian takes you from London - Heathrow to Amman. On arrival you will transfer to the Four Seasons Hotel Amman for a two night stay.Day 2 - Amman
Today's programme begins with sightseeing in Amman, Jordan's capital inhabited since Roman times. See the Citadel, the Roman Forum, museums and the magnificent 5,000 seat Roman amphitheatre, before driving on to Jerash - the 'Pompeii' of the East - for a chance to explore this wonderfully preserved Greco-Roman city. Jerash dates from the time of Alexander the Great and is renowned for its imposing Roman Forum and mile-long Street of Columns. Also enjoy a visit to the most dramatically situated Roman town in Jordan, Umm Qais and continue on to see the panoramic views of Pella, overlooking the Jordan Valley plain.Day 3 - Amman/Petra
This morning you will set off along the ancient Kings’ Highway, travelling through rugged scenery to the once-flourishing Byzantine towns of Madaba to visit the 6th century map, Umm Rassas to see one of its many churches and Mount Nebo with its spectacular outlook over the Jordan Valley. Finally, visit the 12th century Crusader fortress at Kerak with its spectacular hillside setting, before arriving in Petra for a three night stay at the Movenpick Resort Petra, located just a short walk from the entrance to Petra itself. Today you will enjoy a guided tour of the 'Rose-Red City' whose tombs, temples and exquisite monuments are hewn from solid mountain rock. Abandoned in the 4th century, Nabateans, Romans and Crusaders all left their mark on this unique historical site, which is accessed on foot through a narrow fissure in the mountains. The walk is well worth the effort though, as you will see the Treasury, Royal Tombs, Theatre and Roman City with an additional climb (if energy and time allows) up some 1,200 steps to the Monastery.Day 5 - Petra
After a morning free to relax or take time to further explore the fascinating city of Petra, head south from Petra to enjoy an excursion to the desert sands of Wadi Rum, whose dramatic lunar landscapes will forever be associated with Lawrence of Arabia. Your tour includes an exhilarating 4-wheel drive trip over the dunes at sunset. Day 6 - Petra/Dead Sea
Today head north to visit the Baptism site of Jesus, with plastered pools and water systems that were used almost certainly for mass baptisms. Arrive at the Dead Sea with its unique water qualities and climate for a two night stay at the luxurious Kempinski Ishtar Hotel & Spa.Day 7 - Dead Sea
